These charts are worth a thousand words!

Great examples of lots of charts and the information is awesome! A lot of details went into this book to give you great understanding. Thank you for all your great efforts. I have read a quite a few books on kindle in the last couple of months on stock trading and this book beats them all!

About the Author
Robert I. Vasholz is Professor Emeritus of Old Testament at Covenant Theological Seminary in St Louis, Missouri. Though Dr. Valshoz retired in 2007, he continues to serve God's people through his teaching, preaching and publishing projects.

A Great Resource

If you are in a church that is in the practice of the pastor pronouncing a benediction (which is not a closing prayer called a benediction, but a real blessing) to the people as the church goes from corporate worship to the "mission field," I highly reccomend this small book for a pastor, or anyone for that matter, to read the rich promises in Scripture that God gives his people.

My former Hebrew Professor, Dr. Robert Vasholz, put together 109 different benedictions that draw from Scriptural promises to be used in corporate worship. I think the real upshot to some of the benedictions are the way he combined portions of Old Testament scriptures with New Testament scriptures and they work well together in such a way that you are reminded of God's love for his people throughout the ages.

Here is an example of one particular benediction:

May the Lord of Hosts be with you

So that you will become greater and greater still,

Until you recieve that crown of life

Which the Lord has prepared for those that love Him.

2 Sam 5:10 & James 1:12 (pp 48)

He also combines OT with OT, single verses that are not often used as benedictions and aditionally Scripture combined with great lyrics of hymns and poems from Christian history. The language is such that it provides a depth and richness to understanding and recieving God's blessing at the close of corporate worship. And it certainly gives pastors a greater breadth of material than the standard Aaronic Benediction and the three or four which are typically used from the New Testament. Instead of a congregation hearing the same benedictions month by month until they run the risk of being "vain" in their repetition; the pastor has a resource for over two years without a repeat!

Great resource, just one flaw

This book is an excellent resource for any pastor and very helpful. It has one flaw: no index. Each one comes from a particular Scripture (or several Scriptures) and it would have been really, really nice if this book had an index so you could jump directly to a benediction without having to flip through them all to look for a particular Scripture. Still a great resource overall though.

About the Author
Melissa Jo Peltier has been honored for her film and television writing, producing and directing with two Emmys, a Peabody, Humanitas and more than 50 other awards and nominations. An executive producer of the thrice Emmy-nominated and People’s Choice-winning reality series Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan, she co-authored five New York Times best-selling books with its star, along with two more non-fiction titles. Melissa is a co-founder of Burbank-based MPH Entertainment, Inc, which has created over 350 hours of original non-fiction and reality programming. Her dramatic work includes writing the Lifetime movie Nightwaves, and the episode The Collector for the hit CBS series Ghost Whisperer. Most recently, she produced the festival-winning indie feature White Irish Drinkers for New York-based Ovington Avenue Productions, of which she is also a principal with her husband, film/TV writer/director John Gray. She is represented by Scott Miller at the Trident Media Group.

A fascinating look at the sleazy underbelly of the TV entertainment industry.

A fascinating look at the sleazy underbelly of the TV entertainment industry. There are numerous characters, each with interesting stories that weave the fabric of the whole. They are all either clawing their way to their minute of fame, clawing to prolong their minute of fame or clawing to get back their diminishing or lost moment of fame. The real main character of the book is the TV entertainment industry itself. The author weaves through the story the classic question of the chicken or the egg. Has the TV industry (producers, directors, writers, etc) insidiously gutted the social conscience and morality of the viewing audience, generating a demand for sleazier and sleazier, meaningless program content - or has the deterioration of the morality and conscience of the viewer created a demand which the TV entertainment industry simply supplies? Neither side comes out unscathed in Peltier's book. She obviously knows a lot about the subject. The book is well written and held my interest.

A deftly woven novel of substance set in a world of vanishing meaning.

Melissa Jo Peltier exposes a compelling piece of modern life in this tour de force novel. There's a lot of deep truth here--the kind of real reality that only her insider perspective could capture. It's a biting, often hilarious but ultimately disturbing testimony of what can happen when we lose our bearings in a topsy-turvy world where reality means unreal and outrageous behavior is viewed as a favorite pastime. What makes Peltier's work an essential read is her uncanny grasp of the situation paired with a nuanced and compelling writing style. These combine in a kind literary magic that makes her novel stand out from the shallowness of the pop media culture she slyly depicts. Reality Boulevard is a richly lush and enduring island amidst the waves that generate an insatiable hunger for "the next worse thing." Riveting and deliciously fast-paced (you'll find it hard to put it down), it also resonates, touching on something we mustn't lose sight of--the cultivation and appreciation of stories that reach our deeper humanity, engaging us while managing to appeal to our higher nature. Peltier wades into these waters with skill, sharpness and the gifts of a storyteller, producing a novel with a lot of heart. Can't-put-it-down satire on reality tv

I downloaded this the first day it came out; well, I must say when I starting reading, I literally could not put it down. It's been a long time I laughed out loud when I read a book and the satire in this is incredibly funny-- because it's true. The author has an award-winning background in reality TV, so she knows whereof she speaks, and it's a lot of fun guessing who the characters might be based on (though I suspect there are a lot of them out there who are a match for the more ego-driven characters). Her insider's view adds extra weight and credence to her observations about how reality TV can warp personalities and encourage the bad behavior so many of us love to hate. But this is not a moralizing book; it has compassion for its characters, while at the same time observing the costs of fame, especially when conferred on people who have nothing to offer but outrageous personalities. That said it is just...fun! Now I am just waiting for a sequel because I wanted to find out what happens to some of the characters, both good and bad, whom I had grown fond of by the end.

Applying, extending, and interrogating ideas from Henry Jenkins' Convergence Culture: Where Old and New Media Collide (CH, Jun'07, 44-5465), he looks at the economic, aesthetic, industrial, rhetorical, technological,
and narrative implications related to the synergistic practices of film and video-game industries. In doing so, he provides a comprehensive transdisciplinary history of ideas, performing a necessary critical convergence in order to encompass the complexity of his topic. Focusing on the Lord of the Rings and Godfather franchises, and also using
the Marvel and Disney corporations as touchstones, Brookey successfully harnesses media and cultural studies approaches to create an evolutionary, next-generation game-studies methodology--one that carefully seeks to understand the processes and products of this industrial cross-pollination. Among the important ideas this book explores: the connection between game interactivity and incorporation and consumption practices; author/auteur tensions and reconfigurations within studio systems; and the relationship between intertextuality, fan cultures, 'glocalization,' and cultural imperialism. Still have it 30 years later

My mother read this book to me over 30 years ago. Now my grandmother sent it to me in a box of my old books. I didn't remember the words, since I couldn't read at the time, but I still remember this elephants cute little face and his enthusiasm at potty training. The pages of the book are heavy and durable; my sons love to rip up books and they can't rip this one. I'm going to be able to read it to my two baby boys as they grow and learn. My parents told me I never felt an inkling of fear over the potty and I believe this book must have given me that support. With how solid this book is, maybe it will survive yet another generation.

Phenomenal

Absolutely packed full of great info on C# 5.0. My copy of this book is now filled with notes on most pages as it was full of information I wanted to retain forever. If you are really a die hard wanting to learn every detail of C# then this is a great place to turn for a large piece of your journey. No one book could give you everything, which is why I also bought the expert C# 5.0 book, but of the two, this one was my favorite to study and I think the writing style of the author contributed to that. On the job, however, I've been able to reference both this book and the expert one to find the little facts I was trying to remember at the moment. Definitely worth it.

What a mess of a book

I've been writing C# for over 10 years, and had no need for this book. But I've been urging a friend of mine to learn C#. So when I saw the eBook as Apress's Deal-of-the-Day for $10, I bought it and sent it to him.

I kept the eBook just long enough to glance at it myself. And was aghast at what I saw. I then had to write an apology to my friend, as follows...

What a mess of a book!

I can't fathom why they present what they do in the order that they do it.

I was hoping for a reasonable introduction to the language and some of the most-often-used classes (especially GUI-related). And then get on to the more advanced features.

Instead it leaps all over the place, language-wise, and often places what I consider to be semi-advanced features ahead of ones you need to use every day.

As for GUI classes, don't get me started. Which is fair, because the book doesn't get started either!

I'd absolutely hate to have to learn C# from this book. Hey, the title says it's a "Guide". Guides don't jump around like a drunken kangaroo!

(One of the few things in its favor is that it does seem to be accurate, though.)

Anyway, feel absolutely free to ignore this book. If you ever do get around to C#, you may find this useful as a reference book. But not otherwise.

Oh well, I tried. At least this mistake only cost $10.

He's my prof. so I suppose I'm bais, but . . .

From the prospective of an undergrad this is definitely a new way of looking a Socrates. I'm not sure I agree or am qualified to disagree with a lot of what is said but it is very different from my preconceptions on the subject. Contra the party line about Socrates and what he stood for, McPherran presents evidence for an extra-rational Socrates. Understandably this tweaks those who hold S to be the champion of reason and self doubt in the face of mysticism (me, before this book). What was of most value to me was that McPherran shows how this is not really an either or proposition. The Socrates of this book cannot be simply placed on one side or the other of the religion v. reason debate. Good reading for anyone that is interested in the life of Socrates.
